How to Read Product Specifications

Separating meaningful numbers from marketing language.

Specifications are useful when you know which ones affect your experience. For headphones, battery life and weight may be useful starting points; for a laptop, weight and display specifications may matter. Comfort and perceived quality need more context than specifications alone.

Be cautious with numbers measured under ideal conditions. Look for how they were measured and compare like with like.

Start with the manufacturer's official documentation for stated specifications. If details remain unclear, ask the manufacturer and compare independent evidence where available.
